Myth busting
Time for a little myth-busting.
Myth #1: Leadership training is a “nice to have.”
After all, leaders should already know how to do their jobs…right?
Truth: Knowing how to do the work and knowing how to lead people through the work are two very different capabilities.
While others have studied the theory behind leadership development, I’ve spent years DOING it—designing programs, facilitating difficult conversations, coaching leaders, and helping organizations turn leadership expectations into everyday behavior.
That’s not a knock on degrees. I’m a fierce advocate for learning.
But learning without application has limited value. If it doesn’t translate into the real world—into the conversations leaders have, the decisions they make, and the habits they practice—what has it really changed?
That’s where learning professionals come in.
We know how to design workshops that build practical, usable skills.
And the BEST of us? We don’t stop when the workshop ends.
We build the coaching, experiences, frameworks, reinforcement, human-centered design, and organizational systems that help learning stick.
It’s not just training.
It’s the complete learning ecosystem that helps leaders lead—and allows the rest of the organization to perform at its best.
From my point of view, leadership development isn’t a “nice to have.”
It’s CRITICAL if you want everything else to work.
What’s one myth you wish you could bust about your profession?
