From Applying To Being Found

By Philippe Cailloux ·

I may be partly responsible for why the old job search is breaking down.

A few years ago, I started building AI tools that could tailor resumes and cover letters to a job description in seconds, at a time when I had to explain to people what AI was. That work became part of Callings.ai. Then the rest of the market caught up. Now almost anyone can use AI to produce a job application that looks polished, aligned, and ready to send.

That changed the math of hiring. A company posts one role and gets hundreds of applications within days. Most are well-written. Most match the keywords. Most sound close enough to each other that the old process, find a job, apply, repeat, stops helping people stand out.

Over the past four years, I have spent time with career coaches, recruiters, headhunters, hiring managers, job seekers, and workforce professionals. One pattern kept showing up: the market is shifting from finding a job to being found.

That is why I built Callings.ai the way I did. Not just to help people generate better application documents, but to help them develop a clearer voice, stronger signals, and a professional identity that people and systems can recognize. In a market full of polished sameness, being found matters more than applying well.
