About this role

Senior Software EngineerDepartment: Engineering Employment Type: Full Time Location: Remote (select US states) Compensation: $150,235.80 - $169,146.60 / year

DescriptionWe are looking for a curious, conscientious, and fast-learning Senior Software Engineer to join our growing, distributed team supporting a federal government client at Coforma.

Senior Software Engineers are critical members of our engineering team who contribute to the technical vision and strategy of the products we deliver. In this role, you'll work with cross-functional teams at Coforma across engineering, design, product, and program management, as well as directly with end users and external client stakeholders. You'll help ensure that Coforma's capabilities, values, and technical strategies lead to successful outcomes for the staff, end users, and their beneficiaries who rely on this system.

This position requires a blend of hands-on engineering depth, strategic thinking, and strong communication skills. You'll build and operate production services, raise the quality bar across the team, and help lead the incremental modernization of the platform, extracting capability out of Dynamics into well-tested Azure services so the system can be maintained by a broader set of engineers over time.

If you're passionate about improving lives through digital products and services, then Coforma is a great company for you.

Tier 2 — $159,691.20: Experienced and fully competent. Will be able to independently perform key responsibilities of the role once onboarding is completed.

Tier 3 — $169,146.60: Highly experienced and can perform all responsibilities of the role at a higher level than expected once onboarding is completed.

To honor our company-wide equitable pay system, the posted salary range and corresponding tier salaries are non-negotiable.

You must be a full-time resident of the contiguous United States and legally authorized to work in the US now and in the future without sponsorship to be considered for this role. The selected candidate must be willing to undergo and able to pass a Public Trust background check and any applicable background and/or security checks related to the project.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities): Design, build, test, and operate production features across the client stack, includingC#/.NET services in Azure Government, Dynamics 365/Dataverse customizations and plugins

Own complex, cross-boundary changes end to end, where a single piece of work may touch a .NET API, a Dataverse schema change, and a Power Automate flow at the same time

Lead incremental modernization work that extracts capability out of Dynamics into independently deployable, well-tested Azure services, reducing the platform's dependence on specialized Dynamics expertise

Work within the system's complex integration landscape—MPI, the User Enrollment System, FSC, iFAMS, CARMA, Oracle Health/Cerner FHIR, and the Travel Pay API—diagnosing latency, data parity, and failure-mode problems across service boundaries

Raise the engineering quality bar: meaningful automated test coverage, substantive code review, observability, and safe deployment practices

Review others' pull requests with intent, understanding what the change is trying to accomplish, not just whether it compiles, and help eliminate single points of failure in team knowledge

Translate product and policy requirements, including specific beneficiary travel rules, into correct and maintainable implementations in the auto-adjudication rules engine

Produce architecture diagrams, technical designs, and current-state assessments, and present trade-offs to engineering, product, and client stakeholders

Ensure work aligns with client standards and governance including security requirements, the Authority to Operate (ATO) process, and Section 508 accessibility compliance

Mentor mid-level and junior engineers through pairing, review, and design guidance

Support production issues and partner with production support and DevOps on root-cause analysis and durable fixes

In Your First 30 Days, You Will:

Complete new hire orientation training and familiarize yourself with the Coforma Field Guide

Meet key stakeholders and external counterparts on the project team and client side

Develop a working understanding of the platform, its current architecture, and the existing Dynamics implementation

Review relevant documentation, requirements, and technical artifacts to build context on the program's goals and constraints

Partner with engineering and product leadership to identify near-term discovery priorities and risks

After 60 Days:

Independently deliver features of meaningful scope across Dynamics and the .NET services

Serve as a reliable reviewer on other engineers' work, including in areas outside your initial onboarding focus

Identify and document integration approaches, data models, and technical trade-offs, and bring forward concrete proposals for reducing technical debt

Contribute to improving the team's automated test coverage and deployment confidence

After 90 Days and Beyond:

Own a significant area of the platform as the team's go-to engineer for it, while deliberately and proactively spreading that knowledge rather than concentrating it

Lead a modernization or extraction effort from design through production rollout

Act as a technical partner to engineering and product leadership on sequencing, feasibility, and risk

Represent Coforma's technical recommendations directly to client stakeholders

Who You Are and What You Know (Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Requirements): A minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience leading and working with technical teams across Product, Design, Research, and Engineering in agile environments (experience in digital services supporting federal contracts strongly preferred)

Strong, hands-on proficiency in C# and .NET, including building and maintaining RESTful web services, and comfort working in both legacy (.NET Framework) and modern (.NET 10+) codebases

Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365/Dataverse—plugins, data entities, security roles, and platform integration patterns—or demonstrated ability and willingness to come up to speed on it quickly with a strong .NET background

Production experience with Microsoft Azure (App Services, Azure Functions, API Management, Application Insights, Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions)

Strong understanding of API design, RESTful services, JSON, OAuth 2.0, and SSO integration, as well as event-driven and integration patterns

Experience integrating enterprise systems across CRM, ERP, financial, and identity/eligibility platforms (analogous to client platform integrations such as MPI, FSC, iFAMS, and CARMA)

Demonstrated commitment to automated testing—unit, integration, and API-level—and the judgment to know what is worth testing

Working knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, source control workflows in GitHub, and infrastructure as code

Strong understanding of security principles and best practices, including encryption, authentication, and authorization, and the care required when handling PII and financial data

Evidence of ownership and self-direction with the ability to take an ambiguous problem, drive it to a decision, and carry it to production without hand-holding

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Full-time resident of the contiguous United States (must be legally authorized to work in the US now and in the future without sponsorship)

Ability to pass a Public Trust background check and any applicable background and/or security checks related to project requirements

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

Relevant Microsoft certifications for solution architects (e.g. Power Platform or Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement/core platform)

Experience with multiple software development lifecycles and methodologies such as Scrum and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe®)

TypeScript/modern front-end experience

Familiarity with federal government standards and regulations (e.g. FedRAMP, FISMA, Section 508)

Experience building and implementing innovative AI solutions

Expertise in key modern digital services capabilities such as agile software development, human-centered design, product management, DevOps (including CI/CD), API design and implementation, and microservices

Other: Internet: Will prioritize and maintain access to strong, reliable internet for the remote nature of our work, except when on vacation or holiday.

Security: Will keep the highest security practices to ensure privacy and security of Coforma and client information, given the nature of our work, even when on vacation.

Travel Flexibility: On request and with advanced notice, will attend in-person events such as meetings, workshops, and trainings as assigned for projects that require it.

Brand Representation: Will represent Coforma professionally and sincerely, modeling our Company Values in all interactions.
