Overview

The EOSDIS Evolution and Development (EED) program supports NASA's Earth Science Data and Information System (ESDIS) in enabling global, open access to critical Earth observation data. STC is growing its EED support team and is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build the web applications and data visualization interfaces that make NASA earth science data accessible to the global science community.

The Senior Software Engineer is a full-stack developer building front-end interfaces and back-end APIs within the EED Platform or Integration & Analysis train. This role requires deep expertise in React, Node.js, and AWS serverless development, a strong testing culture, and the ability to work across a large, cloud-native program team delivering mission-critical earth science data capabilities.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain cloud-native web applications using React, Node.js, and related frontend frameworks (Redux, Angular).
• Build and consume RESTful and GraphQL APIs for earth science data access, visualization, and dissemination.
• Develop and maintain single-page applications (SPAs) in serverless AWS environments (Lambda, Step Functions).
• Implement end-to-end testing suites (unit, integration, E2E) and integrate with CI/CD pipelines.
• Debug complex issues across frontend and backend layers; proactively resolve performance bottlenecks.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including designers, product owners, domain scientists, and backend engineers.
• Participate in Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) planning events, Program Increment (PI) planning, sprint ceremonies, backlog refinement, and technical reviews.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams within a large, multi-team Agile environment to deliver cloud-native earth science data capabilities on schedule.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipeline automation, code review, testing, and documentation in accordance with program standards.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of software engineering experience
• Strong understanding of React, Node.js, and frontend frameworks (e.g., Redux, Angular)
• Demonstrable proficiency with Git and GitHub workflows
• 3+ years of experience building and consuming RESTful or GraphQL APIs
• 3–5 years of experience building SPAs in serverless AWS environments
• In-depth knowledge of AWS cloud platforms including Lambda, Step Functions, and API Gateway
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and cross-team collaboration skills
• Experience with end-to-end testing including unit tests and integration tests

Desired Skills and Experience

• Knowledge of geospatial data formats and standards (GeoJSON, KML, Shapefile, cloud-native formats)
• Experience with full SDLC from user requirements through wireframes and production deployment
• Experience implementing AI tooling in front-end services (e.g., RAG, MCP)
• Familiarity with GIS software and tools (QGIS, ArcGIS)
• Ability to work with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
• AWS Solutions Architect or AWS Developer certification
