Founding Product Designer

About this role

About the RoleJoin an early-stage AI company building software for insurance claims operations. As the founding product designer, you will shape the end-to-end user experience for claims teams and help turn complex workflows into clear, enterprise-ready products. What You'll DoDesign customer-facing experiences, including daily claims workspaces and dashboards for team leads and executives.

Research how customers use the product through behavioral data, heat maps, discovery calls, and direct observation, then use findings to prioritize improvements.

Partner with product and engineering to translate customer problems into workflows and implementation-ready designs.

Design interactions for AI agents that make their actions, sources, reasoning, and uncertainty clear to users, while supporting human review and intervention.

Guide product experiences from discovery through delivery as the platform evolves for larger insurance organizations.

Establish design principles and a design system, and use AI tools to prototype and evaluate improvements.

What We're Looking ForFive to eight years of product design experience, including early-stage startup experience as a founding designer or first design hire.

A UX-first, data-informed approach to simplifying complex workflows, supported by product analytics and user research.

Experience designing dense, technical software used regularly by operational teams, with strong end-to-end product design work beyond visual UI.

Experience prototyping with AI coding tools such as Claude or Lovable.

Experience in insurance, claims, healthcare, or another compliance-heavy operational domain is a plus.

Experience with AI and human-in-the-loop product interactions, or building design systems, is also valued.

Compensation & BenefitsBase salary is $170,000 to $220,000 annually. Visa transfers are accepted, but new visa sponsorship is not available. LocationOn-site, five days per week in New York, New York.
