Azusa Pacific University invites applications for the Temporary Program Manager for the Writing and Tutoring Center. In accordance with the strategic initiatives implemented by Azusa Pacific University and the Office of the Provost, the Manager oversees, implements, and assesses the Writing and Tutoring Centers serving both APU students (graduate, undergraduate, and professional) and faculty across two Azusa campuses and multiple regional sites. The successful candidate strategically networks with every academic program, relevant academic affairs offices, the Center of Teaching, Learning, and Assessment, the Office of Research and Grants, and University Libraries to serve this R2 institution. Finally, the Centers support a diverse student population, requiring the Manager to have a strong record in and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity.

Required Education

• Bachelor's degree required, Master’s preferred.

Required Experience

• At least one to two years of experience working in and/or leading academic success initiatives in areas such as university writing, tutoring, and speaking centers.
• Three to five years of experience working in higher education preferred
• Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with faculty and students.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work creatively and cooperatively.
• Strong project planning and management skills for projects of varying complexity.
• Experience and expertise in working with multilingual students is preferred.

Primary Duties/Essential Functions

• Oversee promotion efforts for Writing and Tutoring Centers.
• Collaborate with faculty, students, tutors, and writing coaches on the implementation of regional campus and site services.
• Collaborate on the interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training of all graduate and undergraduate student tutors, writing coaches, and office assistants (cumulatively upwards of 30 students at all levels and campuses, as well as regular staff).
• Oversee undergraduate and graduate tutors and writing coaches.
• Oversee undergraduate fellowship/assistantship/tuition waiver programs across schools and colleges in connection with writing and tutoring services.
• Oversee daily operations and physical office space, order supplies, etc. in the Writing and Tutoring Centers.
• Manage scheduling platforms (WCOnline, Google Calendar, Zoom, among others) and scheduling for staff and student writing coaches, tutors, student users, and office assistants.
• Collect requests for workshops and develop a schedule of delivery in concert with the Associate Director.
• Create a listing of availability connected to student support for writing at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including soliciting and implementing feedback regarding individual and group sessions, as well as workshops and course visits.
• Produce annual reports for the Writing and Tutoring Centers and other data reports and statistics when requested.
• Coordinate writing and project management assistance programs that focus on the unique needs of professional and graduate students, with an emphasis on "capstone" project management. This may include "Bootcamp" style writing workshops.
• Coordinate writing assistance programs that address the needs of students with a first language other than English, with an emphasis on native Spanish speakers.
• Serve as the Writing and Tutoring Center planning representative at campus events.
• Facilitate course visits by tutors and writing coaches to promote availability of services to students.
• Maintain weekly, semesterly, and yearly data collection spreadsheets when requested.
• Track how promotion efforts connect to center usage.
• Use data to analyze the efficacy of the Writing and Tutoring Centers, identify areas of improvement or need, identify high-demand courses, identify gaps in service, etc.
• Use university data (DFW rates, Course Request Forms, etc.) to identify courses that require higher levels of academic support in order to adjust offerings to best serve APU students.
• Write and administer surveys, assessments, and feedback forms to students, tutors, writing coaches, student users, and faculty members. Review submissions and identify areas of high performance and areas of improvement.

• Through programs and services offered, the Centers support a wide range of diverse student populations in a dynamic and interactive environment. It is imperative that the Program Manager demonstrates a desire to learn about the varying needs of diverse populations, can appropriately engage, and celebrate the differences of all students with whom we work in a high-traffic setting.

Physical Demands

• Hearing and speaking on the telephone and/or computer.
• Meetings may require walking and/or driving to various University locations. Compensation available in accordance with university policies.
• Ability to pull, push, bend, grasp, reach, and lift up to 20 lbs.
• Requires repetitive motion and sitting at a computer keyboard.

Visual Demands

• Computer monitor and reading.

Environment

• Pleasant office, comfortable temperatures.

Technologies

• Expectation to become proficient in WCOnline or other administrative software.
• Proficient in Google Apps., Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.

Compensation

• Grade 10: $25.94 - $29.83 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity.In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
