The Senior Utility-scale Development Manager at RWE Americas is responsible for initiating, developing, and acquiring utility-scale solar, wind and energy storage projects in the US market. The Sr Manager will play a key role in delivering renewable energy projects in alignment with RWE’s strategy in North America.
Role Responsibilities:
Develops a portfolio of utility-scale Solar, Wind and Energy Storage projects, from green-fielding to start of construction
Serves as project lead, managing large cross-functional project teams and providing guidance in preparing for financing, including data room preparation and third-party engagements
Manages the full project lifecycle, partnering with a strong suite of internal subject matter experts and external consultants; activities include site due diligence, securing land control agreements, environmental and permitting, interconnection, engineering & pre-construction, energy yield, tax abatements, power marketing, and tax equity financing
Manages cost estimating and EPC bidding process to firm up CAPEX as collaborating with Preconstruction and Procurement teams
Manages optimization of engineering design
Provides support during the construction phase to ensure successful COD
Supports junior Development Managers / Associates leading individual projects, serving as a technical and strategic mentor to development team members across functions and markets
Understands key drivers for projects’ financial attractiveness and identifies best project locations in collaboration with RWE’s commercial and technical teams
Drives project competitiveness optimization, via technical, commercial and financial levers
Leads due diligence of project acquisitions, in collaboration with RWE’s M&A team
Prepares management presentations and drives internal approval processes
Manages project budgets, objectives, schedules, and deliverables for assigned development projects
Actively shapes regional strategies and recommendations for market entry, pipeline expansion, project competitiveness and internal improvement initiatives
Job Requirements and Experience:
Bachelors degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, Environmental Science, or relevant fields
Project Management Professional (PMP®), Program Management Professional (PgMP®), or equivalent certification strongly preferred
Minimum 7 years’ experience applicable to renewable energy infrastructure, including experience in developing wind, solar, or battery storage projects in the US
Minimum 3 years’ experience supporting utility scale development preferred
Exceptional project management skills
Expert-level knowledge of regional markets, permitting frameworks, and commercial structuring
Deep experience understanding and managing project budgets and forecasting
Proven experience resolving portfolio-level and strategic development issues across projects and regions
Ability to lead cross-functional project teams and strategic partnerships
Ability to lead and manage complex projects and initiatives, aligning multiple cross-functional teams and applying advanced organizational and leadership skills to drive results
Ability to effectively communicate project details and strategic value to Senior Leadership and ELT
Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
Ability to multi-task, while working independently and as part of a team
Strong leadership and communication, and ability to meet deadlines
Strong organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables
Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to manage customer relationships
Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
Proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgrounds

Detail-oriented, has strong business acumen, and a sound understanding of business concepts
Strong problem-solving abilities, interpersonal skills, attention to detail and work ethics
Ability to travel up to 50%
This position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWEA offices and field locations
Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time
