The role

This position is titled Lead Product Designer externally but functions as Principal Designer internally. It exists to lead the creation of healthcare experiences across every patient and provider touchpoint, from the marketplace discovery experience to medication management tools to clinical workflows. It is a player-coach role, with roughly 80% of time spent as a hands-on individual contributor and 20% on team leadership. You would lead a small, high-performing team of 5-7 designers and researchers, and partner closely with Product, Engineering, Clinical, and Operations. The role reports into senior leadership and has direct access to the CEO through the interview and working process.

What you would do

• Work directly in Figma across the patient marketplace, provider tools, pharmacy platform, and clinical workflows, personally owning key flows and interaction design end-to-end
• Set design direction and strategy while staying close to the craft yourself, rather than delegating the hands-on work
• Recruit, hire, mentor, and develop a small design team (product designers, UX researchers, and design systems specialists), creating growth paths for each person
• Build and maintain a scalable design system that enables consistency and speed across the product
• Implement tools, processes, and workflows that reduce operational friction for the design team
• Define quality standards and design review processes that maintain craft without slowing delivery
• Create metrics and frameworks to measure design impact on business outcomes such as conversion, retention, and patient outcomes
• Partner with Product and Engineering to align on feature needs and timelines
• Communicate design rationale clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, including executive leadership and board members

What they are looking for

• 10 or more years in product design, with at least 4 years leading design teams of 5 or more people, ideally in a player-coach capacity
• Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end ownership of complex, multi-sided products
• Deep expertise in user-centered design, interaction design, visual design, and design systems, with active practice rather than oversight only
• Strong command of modern design tools including Figma, prototyping platforms, and user testing tools; familiarity with AI tools such as Claude is a plus
• Experience shipping products that balance user needs with business constraints in fast-moving environments
• Ability to translate business goals and user needs into clear design strategy and brand vision
• Data-informed approach to design decisions, combining qualitative and quantitative methods
• Proven ability to build trust and alignment across Product, Engineering, executive leadership, and external stakeholders
• Comfortable with ambiguity and making decisions with incomplete information
• Experience in healthcare or other regulated, high-stakes industries is beneficial but not stated as required

Working arrangements

This role is fully on-site at Mochi Health's downtown San Francisco office, five days a week. The office is located near BART and Muni transit.

Pay and benefits

The base salary range is $300,000 to $400,000 per year, plus a 20% annual performance bonus and equity.
