Job description

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help build AI-native financial intelligence products that transform traditional accounting workflows into intelligent, automated backend systems.

You'll work alongside a small, experienced engineering team to develop production-grade AI systems, automate complex financial processes, and deliver meaningful value to customers. This role requires strong software engineering fundamentals, hands-on experience building AI-powered products, and a scientific approach to evaluating and improving AI performance.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working in an early-stage startup environment, taking ownership of projects from concept to production, and solving complex problems involving large, unstructured financial datasets.

Work Arrangement: Remote, with a preference for candidates based in the New York metropolitan area. Applicants must be based in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and deploy agentic AI systems that power customer-facing product features in production.
• Develop multi-step AI workflows, orchestration systems, and intelligent backend services.
• Process complex financial datasets and build pipelines that extract, structure, and analyze information.
• Own features end-to-end, from understanding user needs and designing solutions to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Design and execute rigorous evaluations to measure AI accuracy, reliability, and overall product performance.
• Automate traditionally manual accounting processes through scalable backend services.
• Apply scientific and experimental methods to test hypotheses and improve AI-driven solutions.
• Communicate technical findings and evaluation results to stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
• Collaborate with the engineering team to develop reliable, maintainable, and scalable software.

Required Qualifications

• 4–15 years of backend software engineering experience, with strong production engineering fundamentals.
• Proven experience writing and maintaining production-grade Python code.
• Hands-on experience implementing AI/ML systems and building agentic workflows for production environments.
• Experience with multi-step AI orchestration, evaluation frameworks, and AI-native product development beyond basic API integrations.
• Strong backend engineering experience involving data-intensive domains, such as financial data processing, document parsing, or complex data extraction.
• Demonstrated ownership of projects from initial concept through production deployment, delivering measurable user or customer value.
• Experience working in an early-stage startup environment, preferably at a company that has experienced growth.
• A scientific, experimental approach to engineering, including the ability to evaluate AI outputs systematically and communicate results effectively.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with financial intelligence products or valuation accounting.
• Familiarity with Elixir or experience developing applications using the Elixir programming language.
• Academic or research background in machine learning, artificial intelligence, or data science.
• Experience building AI-powered financial automation products.
• A track record of taking products or technical initiatives from concept to successful production deployment.

The ideal candidate combines deep backend engineering expertise with practical experience building and evaluating AI systems in production.

We are looking for an engineer who takes ownership, tests ideas rigorously, and focuses on delivering reliable solutions to real customer problems. Candidates should have meaningful startup experience and demonstrate the ability to turn complex technical challenges into useful, production-ready products.

Candidates whose AI experience is limited to basic LLM integrations, experimental side projects without real users, or research without production implementation may not be a strong fit.
