Engineering ManagerApplication Deadline: 20 November 2026 Department: Engineering Employment Type: Full Time Location: Remote - USA Compensation: $170,000 - $250,000 / year
DescriptionWe’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team of ~7 engineers building the real-time, high-throughput systems at the core of our exchange. You’ll be accountable for delivery, technical quality, and the growth of your team, working closely with Product, Risk, Compliance, and business leaders. This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-moving, post-Series A environment. You’ll stay close enough to the technology to make sound architectural calls, while spending most of your time building a high-performing team and removing obstacles.
Key Responsibilities Delivery and Technical Leadership
Own predictable, high-quality delivery of your team’s roadmap, from planning and estimation through launch and post-launch operations.
Partner with tech leads on architecture and design decisions for matching, order management, pricing, settlement, and real-time data systems.
Uphold engineering standards for code quality, testing, scalability, security, and observability.
Own production health. Drive incident response, postmortems, and follow-through on reliability and latency improvements.
Balance feature velocity, technical debt, and platform investment, and make the tradeoffs visible to stakeholders.
People and Team Development
Directly manage ~7 engineers, including IC1 through IC4 levels, with regular 1:1s, feedback, and performance reviews.
Set clear expectations by level and coach engineers toward promotion and career goals.
Lead hiring: define roles, run interview loops, and close strong candidates.
Identify skill gaps and create mentorship and training opportunities.
Build an inclusive, accountable, and collaborative team culture, including across remote, offshore, and globally distributed teammates.
Cross-Functional Partnership
Partner with Product to turn business goals into clear scope, requirements, and timelines.
Work with Compliance, Risk, and Legal to build products that meet CFTC regulatory and operational requirements.
Communicate progress, risks, and milestones to executives and stakeholders, with early escalation of risks and no surprises.
Collaborate with other Engineering Managers and Tech Leads on cross-team initiatives, shared platforms, and dependencies.
Process and Execution
Run lightweight, effective agile practices (sprint planning, check-ins, retros) and improve them continuously.
Define and track team health and delivery metrics, such as cycle time, deployment frequency, and incident and change failure rates.
Drive improvements in tooling, CI/CD, and developer productivity.
Make build-versus-buy and prioritization decisions with clear reasoning and documentation.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years managing engineering teams (or leading teams as a tech lead with strong management experience)
Strong technical background building scalable, low-latency, real-time systems in production, ideally in fintech, trading or exchange, crypto, or other high-throughput transactional environments
Hands-on familiarity with modern backend stacks (Go, Java, C++, or Python), microservices, event-driven architecture (Kafka), and REST and WebSocket APIs
Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD
Working knowledge of observability and incident management (New Relic, Datadog, Kibana, or similar)
Proven record of delivering complex projects on time while managing scope, risk, and stakeholder expectations
Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and retain engineers, and to give direct, constructive feedback
Experience managing distributed or offshore teams
Strong communicator who can explain complex technical tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Proactive, adaptable, and comfortable with ambiguity, with a strong sense of ownership
Nice to Have
Experience in prediction markets, sports betting, or regulated exchanges (CFTC or similar)
Familiarity with risk, fraud, KYC/AML, or settlement systems
Experience scaling a team through hiring and growth in a startup environment
