Summary

Own transformer projects from contract execution through commissioning completion, coordinating engineering, supply chain, production, logistics, quality, and field service.

About this role

Description Forgent  Power Solutions is a leading manufacturer of dry-type and liquid-filled transformers serving commercial, industrial, and utility markets. We supply utilities, EPCs, data center developers, and renewable and battery storage projects across North America.

We are seeking a Project Manager to own Forgent transformer projects from the executed contract through successful commissioning completion. The Project Manager is the customer's primary point of contact for that window and is accountable for the commercial and delivery outcome of the purchase order, coordinating Engineering, Supply Chain, Production, Logistics, Quality, and Field Service to meet it.

Key Responsibilities:  Contract Launch & Order Release – Take handoff from Business Development, including scope, commercial terms, and customer expectations set during the sale; confirm the order entry and acknowledgment are consistent with the contract. – Lead internal and customer kickoff; establish the communication cadence, escalation path, and document-approval schedule for the life of the project. – Drive submittal drawing development and customer approval; manage the redline and revision cycle so resubmittals are accurate, tracked, and on schedule. – Confirm customer specification requirements at launch — applicable IEEE/ANSI standards, DOE efficiency levels, UL listings, and site acceptance testing expectations — then release the BOM and trigger procurement with Engineering and Supply Chain.

Delivery Execution – Own the customer-facing delivery schedule. Integrated Supply Chain owns the production schedule; interpret it, communicate it, and report deviations to the customer promptly. – Manage expedite requests, schedule changes, and customer visit scheduling with Production and Integrated Supply Chain. – Coordinate factory acceptance and customer witness testing with Quality and the test floor — test plan review, scheduling, attendance logistics, and release of certified test reports. – Coordinate freight, logistics, crating, export documentation, and site delivery windows with Logistics — including multi-unit delivery sequencing for large projects.

Quality & Safety – Manage the customer-facing side of quality events. Drive non-conformance reports and corrective action to closure with Quality and Engineering, and communicate the resolution and recovery plan to the customer. – Take responsibility for personal safety and share responsibility for the safety of Forgent employees, contractors, and visitors at project sites. Follow site and customer EHS requirements and comply with Forgent policies and procedures.

Budget & Cost Control – Identify scope change early; quote and process change orders before the affected work proceeds. – Track and report liquidated damage and back-charge exposure to functional leadership on a defined cadence, with a recovery or mitigation position for each. – Own the financial performance of assigned projects — revenue forecasting, cost-to-complete tracking against the as-sold estimate, and margin protection through delivery.

Billing & Progress Measurement – Drive billing milestones and invoicing on schedule, and work with Finance and the customer to clear aged receivables on assigned accounts. – Retain commercial items through project closure, including items that outlive the gate, and record their disposition.

Commissioning & Handover – Remain the customer's single point of contact through installation, startup, and commissioning; coordinate site issues, contractor activity, and troubleshooting while Field Services executes the technical work. – Verify the commissioning record, close or formally transfer open items, and issue the warranty certificate. – Complete the handoff to Customer Care against the published gate checklist, including a joint introduction to the customer's operations contact.

Customer Interface & Relationship Management – Serve as the primary customer contact throughout the project lifecycle, providing regular status updates on schedule, milestones, and open items. – Host customers at Forgent facilities, including plant visits, design and pre-production reviews, and witness test attendance — agenda, travel and floor logistics, escort, and follow-up. – Serve as the internal advocate for assigned customers. Route recurring issues, specification trends, and field feedback to Engineering, Sales, and Operations. – Resolve technical and commercial issues with the customer during execution, escalating within Forgent when resolution requires it.

Reporting & Documentation – Provide regular project reporting — schedule status, cost and margin performance, risks, and mitigation plans. – Maintain the project record in Salesforce as the single case of record, including serial numbers and issue category at closure. – Maintain project documentation including submittal records, test reports, commissioning records, and as-built and redline drawings. - Contribute to and follow published standard work for kickoff, change orders, escalation, and handoff.

Qualifications:  Required – Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, supply chain, business, or an  equivalent combination of education and experience. – 5+  years managing capital equipment, electrical apparatus, or engineered-to-order industrial projects with direct customer accountability. – Demonstrated  command of commercial contract terms — warranty provisions, liquidated damages, back-charges, change orders, and payment milestones — in a customer-facing role. – Experience  coordinating across engineering, production, supply chain, logistics, and field service without direct authority. – Working command of project financials — forecasting,  cost-to-complete tracking, invoicing, and margin management across an assigned  portfolio. – Working  proficiency with a CRM or project system of record (Salesforce preferred) and an ERP (NetSuite preferred). – Willingness  to travel frequently — to Forgent manufacturing facilities, customer offices, and job sites, including active construction and commissioning environments. – Comfortable working in manufacturing and active construction environments, with a demonstrated personal commitment to safety. –Remote role, open to candidates anywhere in the United States with convenient access to a major airport. –Travel required (40–60%) to Forgent manufacturing facilities in Waco, TX and Commerce, CA, customer locations, and job sites.

Preferred – Direct  experience with power transformers, substations, switchgear, or battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. – Familiarity with submittal drawing workflows and engineering documentation in an engineered-to-order (ETO) or  configure-to-order environment. – Working knowledge of IEEE/ANSI C57 and IEC transformer  standards, UL listings, and DOE efficiency requirements. – Familiarity with utility, EPC, data center, or renewable/BESS developer customers and  their commissioning and acceptance testing practices (e.g., NETA). – Experience hosting customers in a manufacturing environment — plant visits, design reviews, or witness testing. – PMP,  CAPM, or equivalent project management credential. – Experience establishing or improving project management processes in a growing organization.
