Role overview

The Senior Network Engineer provides advanced design, implementation, troubleshooting, and Level 3 operational support for complex data, voice, campus, and wide area networks.

This hands-on role supports reliable day-to-day network operations while improving performance, resiliency, documentation, and engineering standards across LAN, WAN, wireless, and VoIP environments.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement data, voice, and video network services across campus and wide area environments.
• Provide senior-level operational support for complex LAN, WAN, wireless, and VoIP incidents, outages, and configuration issues.
• Design and implement network capabilities that support business continuity, disaster recovery, redundancy, and failover.
• Monitor network faults, performance, bandwidth utilization, and capacity using flow telemetry and network management systems.
• Diagnose and resolve routing, switching, connectivity, equipment configuration, and service-delivery problems.
• Develop and maintain network diagrams, configuration templates, design validation reports, test plans, and operational procedures.
• Apply network security and information-assurance practices throughout the design and delivery of network services.
• Work across technical teams, lead or supervise engineering activities, and transfer knowledge to operational staff.
• Evaluate technical options and recommend reliable, efficient, and cost-effective network solutions.

Required qualifications

• Six or more years of hands-on experience designing, implementing, and supporting complex enterprise data networks.
• Extensive experience with Cisco routers, switches, and Cisco IOS.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, Ethernet, IPsec, wireless networking, and routing protocols including BGP, iBGP, OSPF, EIGRP, and RIP.
• Expert-level network troubleshooting skills across LAN, WAN, wireless, data, and voice environments.
• Hands-on experience with NetFlow, network management systems, performance monitoring, and bandwidth analysis.
• Experience configuring HSRP and supporting resilient failover and redundancy designs.
• Experience applying security and information-assurance principles to network services.
• Experience supporting system engineering and software development lifecycle activities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and knowledge transfer.
• Ability to work onsite in Washington, DC five days per week.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust background investigation.

Preferred qualifications

• Advanced experience with flow telemetry, network monitoring, and performance-management platforms.
• Experience leading technical staff or coordinating senior engineering work across functional teams.
• Experience designing cabling infrastructure for integrated voice and data services.

Work conditions

• Full-time position requiring onsite work in Washington, DC five days per week.
• B2B contract compensation is $100 per hour.
• W2 compensation is up to $160,000 per year.
• Public Trust eligibility is required.
