Broomsedge Rod & Gun — General Manager
Description
Broomsedge Rod & Gun is located in Soperton, Georgia on generations-old family farms. We have thousands of acres of land, including managed food plots for birds and deer, 40 beaver ponds, and 25 lakes. The farms are a sporting paradise where we hunt duck, quail, pheasant, turkey, deer, hogs, and predators. Our land, our wildlife, and our hospitality offer an unrivaled place for our members to enjoy year-round.
We are growing. This is a rare opportunity to run a sporting operation with real land behind it, a loyal and growing membership, and an owner who wants a manager to run it, not a manager who needs permission.
Available Position: General Manager
The General Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of Broomsedge Rod & Gun — the hunting programs, the lodge, the staff, the dogs, the equipment, and the member experience. This person is the one who makes sure hunts go off right, guests are taken care of, the team knows what’s expected, and the property looks the way it should when a member drives in.
The right candidate is equal parts hospitality professional, wildlife and land manager, and people leader. You will work closely with ownership on planning and growth, but you will own execution.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Hunting Operations
- Plan, schedule, and execute all hunting programs — quail, pheasant, duck, turkey, deer, hogs, and predators.
- Manage guides and seasonal staff; set standards for safety, dog work, and guest experience.
- Oversee the dog program, including kennel operations, leased and owned strings, training, conditioning, and veterinary care.
- Oversee bird programs, including pen and flight pen management, purchasing, and release operations.
- Enforce firearm safety standards across the operation and lead safety briefings and training.
- Manage the deer membership program, member expectations, and stand and blind assignments.
Lodge & Guest Experience
- Oversee lodge operations, housekeeping, and food service in coordination with kitchen staff.
- Manage bookings, hunt calendars, member communications, and guest logistics.
- Be present with members and guests; handle issues personally and fix them before they become complaints.
- Maintain the standards of hospitality that keep members coming back year after year.
Land, Habitat & Property
- Direct habitat management, food plots, prescribed burning, and course maintenance in coordination with our farming operations.
- Work with the grounds and facilities team on lodge upkeep, roads, ponds, and equipment.
- Coordinate with our row crop farming operations where hunting and agriculture overlap.
- Oversee equipment fleet use, maintenance schedules, and vendor relationships.
People & Administration
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and lead full-time and seasonal staff.
- Build a culture where people want to stay through the season and come back the next one.
- Manage budgets, purchasing, inventory, and cost controls; report results to ownership.
- Track licensing, permits, insurance requirements, and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain accurate records for hunts, harvests, birds, dogs, and guests.
Growth
- Work with ownership on membership growth, corporate and group business, and off-season use of the property.
- Help build the Broomsedge brand and represent the operation in the sporting community.
This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee in this position. It is not intended to provide all details or a step-by-step account of every procedure or task. The employee is expected to perform other duties necessary for the effective operation of the business.
Qualifications
Required
- Three or more years in a management or assistant management role at a hunting lodge, plantation, sporting club, guest ranch, or comparable hospitality operation.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and retain a seasonal team.
- Strong client and member skills — comfortable, professional, and unflappable with high-expectation guests.
- Working knowledge of upland and waterfowl hunting operations and bird dog work.
- Sound judgment on firearm safety and the willingness to enforce it.
- Budget and cost management experience.
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to pass a standard background check.
- Willingness to live near the property and work the hours the season demands.
Preferred
- Degree in wildlife enterprise management, wildlife biology, forestry, hospitality, agriculture, or a related field.
- Experience at a high-end lodge or plantation with a demanding clientele.
- Certified firearm instructor, or willingness to become one.
- Own bird dogs and the ability to guide when needed.
- Habitat management and prescribed burning experience.
- Farming or agricultural background, or a genuine willingness to learn our farming side.
- Experience with reservation, POS, or membership management systems.
Compensation & Benefits
- $65,000–$80,000 base salary, depending on experience.
- Annual performance bonus tied to membership growth, member retention, and operating results.
- Company vehicle provided.
- Use of property equipment; kennel space available for a manager with their own dogs.
- Paid time off structured around our season.
- A clear seat at the table on where this operation goes next.
