Applications are completed on the employer's own site.
Own the end-to-end application roadmap, organize customer feedback and discovery processes, and ensure cross-product line UX coherence.
The Role (also the Mission)
We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to own Hexmodal's application end-to-end: the application where every Hexmodal product comes to life for our customers. This role will be focused on organizing the discovery, roadmapping and feedback functions for the application and will have full ownership over organizing these functions. They will work closely with the Application Lead, to determine a roadmap that is feasible and accomplishes both the needed product changes as well as the engineering work to scale.
Hexmodal will be dedicating a PM to each product-line. These PMs will own their focused roadmaps, which will be a combination of hardware, firmware and application features. These PMs will then submit their PRDs to you, and you will be responsible for organizing and prioritizing across the different product lines, as well directly responsible for the features on the application that span across product lines (permissioning, alerting, UI, integrations, etc).
You are the first dedicated PM for the application. That means you will build the discovery, feedback, and roadmap machinery from scratch and then run it: talking to customers directly, working shoulder to shoulder with the support and CS teams who own the customer experience today, and turning touchpoints into metrics instead of anecdotes.
You are the subject matter expert for the application and the person everyone in the company turns to with questions about it. You build proactive processes instead of reacting to issues, and you keep one coherent application where it would be easy to end up with several bolted-together device consoles.
Over time, you will grow from running discovery to owning the application's strategy and its engagement and retention outcomes.
This role reports to the Director of Product, but will be embedded with the application engineering team, and is based out of our NYC office.
Here are some ways you'll make an impact (also Outcomes of the role)
Own the application roadmap: a single, prioritized backlog for everything the app team builds, with state and priorities visible and shareable in Jira, documentation in Confluence, and a clear answer to "what are we building next" grounded in customer interviews, support signal, and revenue. Be the single intake for app work: product-line PMs define what their suite needs in the application; you weigh those requirements against cross-line features, platform health, and engineering constraints, and you defend the resulting priority with evidence. Build and run a systematic customer feedback practice: needfinding, structured interviews, defined touchpoint cadences, and a customer advisory board, turning every touchpoint into metrics. Go to the source: run your own customer interviews and feedback sessions, sit with the support and CS teams who field requests today, and see how customers actually behave in the product rather than how we assume they do. Translate discovery into defined PRDs for engineering and stay involved in the entire development process to ensure that what we build meets customer needs. Run the roadmap as a standing negotiation with the Application Lead: you bring validated priorities, they bring capacity and engineering-health needs, and the two of you keep discovery running one to two sprints ahead of delivery. Own cross-line UX coherence: one application with consistent navigation, configuration, and reporting patterns, whatever device suite a customer runs. Maintain the firmware/app interface with product-line PMs and TPMs: payload and configuration semantics, firmware version support, and release coordination between device and software. Own the app-side post-ship experience: communication to customers on application features and fixes, and the feedback loop that turns app bugs and support themes into roadmap input. Build the application's metrics and analytics layer over time: instrument usage, define activation and engagement measures, and graduate the feedback practice from interviews to interviews plus data. Run structured product syncs and ensure information transfer: every meeting's notes land in the product's Slack channel, and knowledge never stays siloed with you. Work in an agile model day to day while coordinating with the waterfall release trains inherent to hardware. Grow into ownership of the application's strategy: engagement and retention outcomes, the case for platform investment, and the app's role in what makes Hexmodal worth buying.
Competencies we are looking for in the right candidate
5+ years of product management experience with B2B SaaS or software platforms, including ownership of a software surface serving multiple stakeholders or product lines Prior start-up experience required at a Series A/B/C company; has operated as an early PM, and has participated in building a product function's processes from the ground up. Owned a software product used at scale: thousands of customers, daily-use workflows, with real retention stakes and a difficult technical foundation. Judgment under pressure. Makes and defends decisions based on evidence and strategy rather than the loudest voice in the room, including when that means declining requests from sales, engineering, or leadership, or from another PM with a legitimate ask. Changes position when the evidence changes, not when the pressure does. Strong customer discovery instincts: you know how to run a needfinding interview, synthesize what you heard, and convert it into prioritized roadmap decisions Scrappy by default: you book the interviews, run the sessions, and write the synthesis yourself; you don't need a research team or a mature analytics stack to start learning Technical fluency: comfortable discussing APIs, data models, device configurations, uplinks/downlinks, and release constraints with engineers, and comfortable being wrong and learning fast Hands-on data skills and AI fluency: you can pull your own numbers, build dashboards, and use BI tools, Git, and AI assistants (e.g., Claude) as part of your daily workflow, but don't defer your thinking to AI; has instrumented a product and defined its activation and engagement metrics Stakeholder management across peers: you can tell a fellow PM their request isn't next and keep their trust, because the reasoning was transparent and the evidence was shared Proven ability to design clear processes while remaining agile: you build the SOP, then improve it Exceptional written communication: PRDs, roadmap documentation, and meeting notes that others can actually act on Strong prioritization and project management skills; you can defend how you and the app team spend time An ownership mindset: you don't hand problems off at the PRD, the release, or the escalation; you see them through to customer outcome Ability to work through ambiguity, think creatively, and roll up your sleeves BA / BS degree or equivalent practical experience
Bonus Points (Some nice to haves for this role)
Platform PM experience at a multi-product company: owning the shared surface while line or feature PMs owned the verticals IoT or connected-device exposure: understands firmware constraints, device configuration, and what it means when the product's data comes from hardware in the field Experience in regulated or compliance-driven domains (life safety, healthcare, cold chain) where the application is the customer's compliance record Product analytics depth: Amplitude/Mixpanel-class tooling, event taxonomy design, experimentation Design collaboration or UX research background; has worked in a product trio with engineering and design Experience with LoRaWAN or other LPWAN connectivity, or products built on device fleets
