About this role
Job Description
Asana is hiring a Senior Product Manager, Project & Task Experience for its New York, NY office on a full-time basis. This role sits within the team that owns the core surfaces customers use to turn work into concrete plans — Pages, projects, list views, and My Tasks — making it foundational to how millions of teams structure, organize, and view their work.
The Senior Product Manager Role at Asana
This position goes beyond standard product ownership. You will define strategy for large workstreams within the core planning experience and drive end-to-end delivery of multi-month initiatives — from problem definition through launch. Because the surfaces you oversee ripple across nearly every other team at Asana, building consensus and driving cross-functional coordination is central to your success.
You will partner closely with Engineering, Design, Experience Research, Data Science, Sales, Support, and Marketing to ship great products. The role also spans both 0 → 1 experiences and deep, high-stakes improvements to workflows that teams rely on every day.
What You Will Achieve
- Set the strategy for a program or large workstream within the core planning experience, aligned with broader group goals.
- Drive end-to-end delivery of multi-month initiatives — often defining work that lands on other teams’ roadmaps and coordinating delivery across multiple teams.
- Scope tight MVPs and prioritize rigorously, making sound decisions even without perfect information.
- Facilitate complex, multi-team alignment around ambiguous tradeoffs.
- Connect regularly with customers — especially large and enterprise teams — using insights to guide strategy around how they configure and scale their use of Asana.
- Mentor other product managers and help raise the bar on product craft across the team.
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of Product Management experience driving end-user features — not purely internal or platform-only work.
- Track record shipping multi-month, end-to-end initiatives requiring close coordination across multiple teams, including work that puts deliverables on other teams’ roadmaps.
- Understanding of how large organizations actually get work done — messy structures, competing workflows, teams that need the same feature to serve different purposes — and experience shaping product decisions around that complexity.
- Systems thinker: comfortable reasoning about how a change in one part of the platform affects adjacent and dependent surfaces, while still caring about the individual, in-the-moment experience.
- Strong cross-functional communicator capable of aligning multiple teams around hard decisions and keeping execution moving when consensus is difficult.
- Curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and leverage them to enhance productivity, collaboration, or decision-making.
Work Arrangement
This role follows an office-centric hybrid schedule based in Asana’s New York City office. Standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most employees work from home on Wednesdays, while Friday flexibility depends on the specific work and team partnerships involved.
Compensation and Benefits
Asana believes compensation should reflect the value you create relative to market standards. Benefits supporting employees worldwide include:
- Mental health, wellness, and fitness benefits
- Career coaching and support
- Inclusive family building benefits
- Long-term savings or retirement plans
- In-office culinary options catering to dietary preferences
Application Tips for Asana’s Senior PM Role
Standing out for this position requires demonstrating specific functional expertise:
- Highlight cross-functional delivery examples: Prepare to discuss multi-month initiatives where your work landed on other teams’ roadmaps. Quantify the scope of coordination involved.
- Showcase systems thinking: Be ready to explain how a change you shipped affected adjacent surfaces or dependent workflows downstream.
- Demonstrate enterprise customer insight: Reference experiences engaging large or enterprise users to shape product decisions around their complex organizational structures.
- Reference relevant platforms: If you have experience at work management or enterprise SaaS companies — such as Dropbox, Box, Google Workspace, Jira, ServiceNow, or Zendesk — make that prominent in your application narrative.
- Discuss AI exploration: Share concrete examples of leveraging AI tools to enhance productivity, collaboration, or decision-making in your product management workflow.
- Prepare for ambiguity scenarios: Practice articulating how you scope tight MVPs and make sound decisions without perfect information.
