What it takes
A master's or higher in counseling (counselor education, counseling psychology, school, clinical mental health or rehabilitation counseling) from an accredited program, eight core graduate courses, a career specialization (600 supervised hours of career counseling, 60 hours of approved career continuing education, or NCDA's Facilitating Career Development course), and a case-study assessment. Valid 3 years; renewal needs 30 hours of continuing education.
